The computer-assisted translations tools, or CAT Tools, are fairly new, but already became essential and indispensable to most translators and translation companies. Computer-Assisted Translation is the translation of texts on the computer through the use of specialized computer technology, which was specifically created to facilitate and improve the translation process. This technology is based in the use of translation memories and in the creation of glossaries, which allows the distribution to several translators, obtaining a homogenous, specific and quality documentation in several languages.
These tools facilitate the translation process, dividing the text into smaller segments that can be translated side-by-side on the screen. This text segments are organized in order to make the translation easier and more efficient for the translator and, at the same time, reduces the time necessary for the final delivery. It is possible to review these segments later to ensure that the terminology and the writing style of the original document have been adhered to.
